Mac CPU usage running high

If you notice your Mac CPU running more than normal check the Activity Monitor and you may notice the mds process taking some CPU. If so, this is likely because the Spotlight service on the Mac is continually reindexing the SafeCopy log file which is changing constantly. This can be a particular problem during the initial backup when things are most active.

Here is how to fix it:

  1. Open System Preferences and go to Spotlight
  2. On the Privacy tab, add the SafeCopy folder (HD / Users / YourName / Library / Application Support / SafeCopy)
  3. Done. That should quiet things down for your computer.

We are working to implement a solution to do this for you in a future build of SafeCopy for the Mac.
